Hot 12 Certifications Of LED Driver Power Supply

Origin of Certification:

Society is constantly moving forward, with the industrialization and standardization of production emerging. From the early 20th century to the 1970s, certification activities carried out by various countries were mainly based on product certification. In 1903, Britain was the first to certify steel rails based on national standards and engrave the kite mark on the rails, pioneering the establishment of a national certification system in the world, and began normative activities for certification work under the leadership of the government.

As time changes, product certification has become an internationally accepted and effective means for evaluation, supervision and management of product safety, quality, environmental protection and other characteristics.

There are many types of led drivers on the market. Safety certification is particularly important when choosing a high-quality led driver. Generally speaking, the more certification projects for a product, the higher credibility of the quality of the led driver. Therefore, when you purchasing, try to choose certificated products.

2, UL Certificate

Country representative used: United States

UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is the most authoritative, non-profit private safety testing organization in the United States. It mainly conducts safety tests and inspections on various equipment, systems and materials to confirm whether there is any danger to life and property, and will The test results are announced. UL has published hundreds of standards, most of which have been adopted by ANSI (American National Standards Institute).

In the UL certification of LED lighting products, UL1310 or UL60950 can be used for led driver certification testing.

The main differences between the two standards are as follows:

1. UL1310 is a safety standard for CLASSII (power supply with limited voltage and capacity) power supply equipment. The power supply certified by UL1310 is a CLASSII power supply; UL60950 is a safety standard for information technology (IT) equipment, and its applicable certification scope is larger than UL1310;

2. The UL1310 standard stipulates that the maximum output voltage of the power supply under any load condition (including no load) has a peak exposed contact voltage of 42.4V. When the equipment does not contain a device that can automatically cut off the power in the output circuit, the maximum output volt-ampere is not more than 100 VA; UL60950 defines that under normal output voltage conditions, the voltage between any two accessible circuit parts, or the voltage between any accessible circuit part and the protective ground terminal of Class I equipment, shall not exceed 42.4V AC peak value, or 60V DC value;

3. UL1310 certification is only applicable to CLASSII power supply equipment in the power grid with a calibrated voltage of 120 or 240Vac. UL60950 is applicable to information technology products with a rated input voltage not exceeding 600vac. For the driving power supply of UL-certified LED lighting products with a 277V voltage system, it can only be Quoted from UL60950 standard certification testing.

When you apply led driver for UL certification for the first time, it must conduct the first factory inspection after the certification is completed and before shipment. Follow-up inspectors will visit the factory from time to time for inspections. The frequency of inspections is determined by product type and production volume. Normal products inspected at least four times per year.

3, CUL Certificate

Country representative used: Canada

For LED driver power supply, Canada requires UL1310 and UL60950 standards, respectively, corresponding to the safety standards of CLASS II led driver and information technology equipment. When using UL1310-certified led driver for CUL(Canadian market) LED lighting certification, the relevant safety tests are not exempted.

The use of UL60950 certified led driver to do CUL LED lighting certification, not exempt from the relevant safety tests.

4, Class P Certification

Country representative used: United States

LED driver power supply play an important role in LED lights as the “heart of the lamp” and are also a key subject of safety considerations. Following the widespread application of the Recognized Component for Type TL (Temperature Limited) LED driver power supplies, North America has launched the latest Listed Class P LED driver Certification Requirement Decision. This CRD pays special attention to the structural and electrical connection applications between LED driver power supplies and LED lights. It can be more flexible to switch between different models of the same specification Class P LED drivers.

When applying for certification for UL1598, if a Class P led driver that has passed Listed certification is used, after the led light is certified, you can replace it with a Class P led driver of the same specification and Listed certification without apply lamp certification again. Save certification costs and shorten certification cycles for the majority of LED lighting manufacturers.

5, FCC Certification

Country representative used: United States

The FCC is a certification for electromagnetic interference. The power supply will produce strong electromagnetic interference when it is working. If it is not shielded, it may affect the display, motherboard and other electrical equipment, and even cause harm to the human body. Therefore, there are strict international regulations on electromagnetic interference, and the common standards are FCC-A industrial standard and FCC-B civil standard, and only the power supply that meets the latter is safe and harmless.

6, CE Certification

Country representative used: Europe

CE certification is a mark of mandatory certification of products in the European Market and it is a necessary condition for trade between the EU and non-EU countries. The CE mark is a mark self-declared by the manufacturer for its products, which means that the product meets the requirements of EU technical regulations and has obtained European certification.

Through CE certification, LED driver power supplies need to meet the following standards:

  • Complies with the EU’s Low Voltage Directive and EMC Directive, has electromagnetic compatibility and does not affect the normal use of other electrical equipment;
  • Complies with the European Electromagnetic Energy Directive and will not cause harm to the living and working environment;
  • The quality is safe and reliable, the service life is long and it complies with European standards.

The European Union (EU) has implemented strict CE certification standards for LED driver power supplies,only passed CE certification can enter the European market. Other countries and regions are gradually following suit and implementing similar certification standards.

CE Test standards

LED power supplies need to undergo “EMC electromagnetic compatibility and LVD low voltage testing” when applying for CE certification.
The LVD directive for EU CE certification of LED lighting products is 2006/95/EEC. The main test standards are EN 60598-1, EN 60598-2 series, EN62493, EN 61347-1, EN 61347-2-13, EN 62031 and EN 62471, EN62493.
The EMC directive for EU CE certification of LED lighting products is 2004/108/EC. The applicable test standards are EN55015 and EN61547. The EN55015 standard considers the requirements for product emission (that is, EMI), while EN61547 considers the requirements for anti-interference capabilities (that is, EMS). If the product is AC powered or can be connected to an AC power supply, the two tests EN61000-3-2 (current harmonics) and EN61000-3-3 (voltage flicker) need to be added.

7, RoHS Certification

Country representative used: Europe

RoHS mark: A mandatory standard established by EU legislation. Its full name is the “Restriction of Hazardous Substances” .

This standard has been officially implemented on July 1, 2006. It is mainly used to standardize the material and process standards of electronic and electrical products, making them more beneficial to human health and environmental protection. The purpose of this standard is to eliminate six substances including lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in electrical and electronic products, and focuses on stipulating that the lead content cannot exceed 0.1%.

How does the LED driver meet RoHS standards?

1. Selection and control of raw materials.
Among the materials used in LED drives, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium are almost never used. Therefore, in the selection of raw materials and processes, basic environmental protection requirements can be met as long as lead, Pb and halogen do not exceed the standard. PCB surface metal treatment It is to achieve lead-free (<0. 1%pb).
Lead is a heavy metal element that is widely distributed in nature. It is the final product of the decay of three radioactive elements, uranium, thorium, and actinium. Once the amount of lead inhaled by the human body exceeds its saturation concentration, symptoms such as anemia, calcium deficiency, and decreased immunity will occur.

The management of raw materials is an extremely important link in environmentally friendly production, such as tin bars. As long as lead-containing tin bars are mistakenly added to the pure tin bath, it will lead to catastrophic consequences, and the residue of indirect materials such as flux cannot be ignored. Specific countermeasures that can be taken include:
① Develop coding rules for halogen-free and lead-free raw materials;
② Adopt color markings, and have a “green and environmentally friendly” label approved by IQA printed on its outer and inner packaging;
③In warehouses and production sites, environmentally friendly raw materials must be stored separately, and specially designated personnel must be added at the production site;
④ Implement the “Green Qualified Supplier” certification program.

2, Technology development

Process development and management is an important part of environmentally friendly production. Specific countermeasures that can be taken include:
①Environmentally friendly and non-environmentally friendly materials must be produced in separate or mixed lines, such as development and finished product cleaning.
② Mark the environmental product seal on the MI process paper, and sign on the MI to confirm its lead-free process to remind on-site operating unit personnel.
③Environmentally friendly product production facilities and tooling must be included in visual management and distinguished with conspicuous signs.

8, ENEC Certification

Country representative used: Europe

ENEC (European Norms Electrical Certification) is the European safety standard mark. The scheme is based on the ISO-type5 European full certification scheme, which was originally established in 1991. There are a total of 24 member verification agencies participating in the scheme (including the common TUV, VDE, DEMKO, NEMKO). At first, it was only applicable to various types of lamps. Through the efforts of European industry and consumer organizations, the scope of application now covers lighting products and their accessories, switches, controllers, connectors, plugs and other consumer electronic products. Therefore, ENEC is a reliable verification mark with higher value.

The difference between LED power supply applications for ENEC and TUV: In addition to the safety standards EN61347-1 & EN61347-2-13 regulations, ENEC also needs to meet the Performance EN62368 requirements. For example, the LED power supply will require that the LED power supply must burn normally in the TC environment for two times. Hundreds of hours to ensure product Tc declaration is appropriate.

The ENEC mark can prove:
  • Products comply with applicable EU safety standards and performance testing requirements
  • The manufacturer uses a quality system in accordance with ISO 9000
  • The finished product is retested every two years
  • The manufacturer has a certified production control program, such as factory inspections

CB system (electrical products qualified testing and certification IEC system) is an international system operated by IECEE, IECEE member states certification bodies based on IEC standards to test the safety performance of electrical products, the test results of the CB test report and CB test certificate in IECEE member states are mutually recognized system.

The IECEE CB system is the first truly international system for the mutual recognition of electrical product safety test reports. A multilateral agreement is formed between the national certification bodies (NCBS) of each country, and manufacturers can obtain national certification from other member countries of the CB system with a CB test certificate issued by an NCB.

The products covered by the CB system are within the scope of IEC standards recognized by the IECEE system. According to the rules of the CB system, the CB test certificate is valid only when it is provided together with the CB test report. CB certification is an international certification, in short, CB certification can be converted into various types of certification, such as CE IECEE and so on, is a general certificate.

Many people think after get CB certification ,they can sell to all over the world. This is wrong. CB certificate only for transfer, when the LED power supply apply for CB certification, need to sell to which country, Just provide the CB test certificate and CB test report together and transfer them to the certificate of the corresponding country.

LED power supply CB certification need to pay attention:

1. An application for a CB certificate may be submitted by the applicant to the National Certification Body (NCB) covering any of the product ranges.
2. The application may include one or more factories producing the products in one or more countries.
3. Applicants/manufacturers/factories located in countries without IECEE member institutions are required to pay an additional fee for each CB test certificate.
4. The applicant may request the NCB to test the product according to the country differences of the country to which the product is sold.
5. The applicant may be either a manufacturer or an entity authorized to act on behalf of the manufacturer.
